JoJo Siwa will judge the premiere of the cover of “So You Think You Can Dance” on May 18
So you think you can dance returns to FOX this summer with an all-new judging panel. This series is finally emerging from a hiatus after production ceased in 2020. The beloved series is returning to television with some notable changes.
So you think you can dance announced the celebrities seated on the panel for season 17. So you think you can dance former Stephen “tWitch” Boss will sit at the judges’ table alongside Tony-nominated artist Matthew Morrison, and Dancing with the stars celebrity JoJo Siwa. The only original cast member who returns to the series is host Cat Deeley. Siwa shared her excitement for the series on Instagram.
“I’m so grateful that I’m going to be a judge! It’s such an honor to be a part of this shows comeback!!! Don’t miss the season premiere of So you think you can dance May 18,” she wrote.
This young celebrity rose to fame in the second season of dance moms went on to have a successful career on Nickelodeon. Prior to this series, Siwa returned to her dance roots as a second-place winner on Dancing with the stars season 30.
It was clear to fans of the long-running series that season 17 would play out differently than the others. On March 4, longtime judge Nigel Lythgoe announced his departure from the judges’ table. It’s apparent now that former justices Mary Murphy and Laurieann Gibson aren’t returning either.
This season of So you think you can dance promises a revamp of the old formatting, considering itself brand new. The network says the all-new season will feature skilled dancers between the ages of 18 and 30. These dancers will perform in multiple dance styles including contemporary, tap, hip-hop, and more. Selected dancers will move into the studio and work with world-renowned choreographers. They will compete weekly with new challenges and twists introduced throughout the season.
So you think you can dance Returns to TV May 18
In February, it was announced that So you think you can dance was kicking off their next season. This came as a surprise to many since the series was pulled from the network in 2020 due to Covid-19 issues. Auditions for the upcoming season began March 16 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Since the start of the auditions, contemporary dancer Robert Roldan has shared a video at each audition location.
The long-awaited season 17 of So you think you can dance premieres May 18 on FOX. Their season will begin after the season finale of The Masked Singer 8-9 p.m. After airing on the network, So You Think You Can Dance will be available on Tubi, Fox Now, Hulu, and On Demand along with services like DIRECTV, DISH, Spectrum, and more.
