SEASON 17 of So You Think You Can Dance aired its second set of auditions on Wednesday night, and a contestant shocked the judges with an emotional backstory.

Zyiasia Knighton shared that she is an EMT, an ER patient care technician and a member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, in addition to being a dancer.

“When I was about 10 my father was murdered,” she said.

After her incredible performance, she told the judges that she became a paramedic because when her father was killed, paramedics responded to the wrong address and couldn’t reach him in time.

This season’s judges include JoJo Siwa, Matthew Morrison and Stephen “tWitch” Boss.

Cat Deeley is back as host and the first episode premiered on May 18, 2022.

The show was originally scheduled to return in 2020, but it was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

So You Think You Can Dance airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST on FOX.

    Boss is a judge on this season’s So You Think You Can Dance.

    Matthew Morrison, 43, shot to fame after his role as Will Schuester on Fox’s Glee.

    He will be featured on the show this season as a judge.

    She went on to say that many talented people performed for the show and “I don’t know if it’s on the same level, but it was a lot of fun to say the least.”

    “Today’s solo wasn’t strong enough for me, but just know what you’re doing is absolutely amazing,” Stephen said.

    Matthew voted yes.

    Jojo voted no, ultimately sending Jermaine home.

    “Not my type,” she then joked.

    “Don’t worry, not mine either,” Beau joked.

    The judges voted to send him to the next round.
